What have we been up to lately?
Attended tap, jazz and ballet classes
Crafted a pencil holder out of wood
Explored chemistry (iron filings and magnets, oxygen/fire, observations)
Visited the Folsom Zoo Animal Sanctuary
Rehearsed on saxophone at jazz band
Wound our handspun, naturally-dyed yarns onto shuttles to prep for weaving
Attended gymnastics class
Attended tap, jazz and ballet classes
Took a clarinet lesson
Played made-up games with balls and sticks
Danced the Tinikling (Filipino)
Tried on costumes with cousin and rehearsed with professional ballet dancers for the upcoming Nutcracker Ballet!

Unrelated but I've been thinking of you. My prickly pear cactus has cochineal, a fuzzy parasite. Not good for the cactus but it was used centuries ago for making brilliant red dye. I'd harvest & send you some if I knew what to do.

ReplyDeleteI've danced the tinikling! We haven't done it with the kids yet, but that's a great idea to use dowels (that's what it looks like you're using).

Hi Stacy! Yes, we used dowels for the Tinikling. They work very well. Rick is from Binangonan in the Rizal Province (although he's lived in the US most of his life). I visited the Philippines a few time when Rick was there for medical school. I remember seeing professional dancers do the Tinikling...amazing! It's a fun, rhythmic activity for kids. Salamat!
